Gluten Free Day 2

November 3

-triangle and a half or so of polenta with creamy mushroom ragout from whole foods salad bar (400 cals?)

Yep, it hurt my stomach. wtf is going on??? I can't not be able to eat dairy too. come ON.

-part of a salad (lots of veggies and ranch, originally put tofu on it but realized there was probably gluten in the teriyaki sauce) also from the salad bar (300 cals?)

-3 tootsie rolls (approx. 75 cals)

-plain frozen yogurt with fruit (175 cals)

-1/2 serving of gluten free pretzels (70 cals)

-chicken breast with a tiny bit of leftover gluten-free teryiaki sauce (300 cals?)
-half a serving of hazelnut crackers (65 cals)
-1 tbsp hummus (25 cals)

I've still had that acidy burny feeling in my throat. :(.

-gluten free vanilla cupcake from french meadow bakery (230 cals)

-about 2.5 liters of water over the course of the day

I had pre-planned my entire day food-wise and totaled it up out of curiosity and it was 1610 cals. Instead there was a change of plans and I just ate when I felt like it and what I felt like and it ended up being 1640...not bad.

So far so good gluten-wise. It's a lil hard already, but seems manageable. Mostly. I know it'll only get harder in a sense, but I'm sure it'll get easier too once I figure out more of the ropes.

As my blog-title says: one day at a time...

Question of the Day: Have you ever made a drastic dietary change? What kind? How'd it go?

Gluten Free Day 1

November 2

Kind of interesting. After I ate that wheat-based cookie last night I didn't get a terrible stomachache like I had all day, but my throat and tongue started hurting and I felt acidic. I'm not saying I am indeed gluten intolerant after one incident, but I just thought it was worth noting.

-apple/peach/banana mini juice box (60 cals)

-iced tea (after a few sips my stomach hurt. UGH) (0 cals)
-water

-side of fruit salad (70 cals?)

I also ordered blackened tilapia, sauteed spinach, and cabbage, but decided to google them after the fact and they didn't show up on the Luby's (where I got it from--a cafeteria-type restaurant) gluten free menu. I still didn't think any of it had gluten, but just to be safe I gave it to my Dad to eat for his lunch tomorrow. *sigh* Since my stomach hurt anyway I wasn't in the mood to eat much. The fruit didn't seem to upset my stomach tho, so that's good.

-sample of apple cider from Central Market (50 cals?)

-small gelato (half root beer float half pumpkin chocolate crunch) (160 cals?)

-big salad (spring mix, extra spinach, mushrooms, carrots, a few pieces of potato, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, peas, a tinyyy bit of corn, radish, tofu, tuna, chick peas, cottage cheese, a tiny bit of ranch) (not sure....350 cals? I had quite a bit leftover)
-water

-water mixed with joint powder

-bengal spice tea with a splash of pumpkin eggnog (75ish cals)

I found out that some teas (including my beloved holiday ones) contain barely, so they're not gluten free. TEA? Really? I can't catch a break with my favesies.

But this tea was safe & no stomachache then either

-gluten free crackers (so good) with a slice of organic white cheddar cheese (220 cals)

Obviously I didn't eat very much, but I'm sure that will change real soon whenever my stomach fully behaves again. I got two full grocery bags filled with nothing but gluten-free alternative products (crackers, granola bars, etc.) among the fresh usual stuff I can still have (veggies, etc.)

Of course I'm hoping ultimately I will feel better, but it's going to hardcore SUCK if I theoretically can never have gluten again. To be determined, I suppose. I know a lot of now gluten free people felt that way at the beginning of their journey, but wouldn't consider going back, so that's hopeful if it does end up being the case. And if it doesn't? Well, the alternative foods are pretty healthy (healthier than their gluten counterparts actually), so no harm there. I'll (completely) cross that bridge if/when I come to it.

Ooh ooh and I also found a gluten free pumpkin pie! I'll still probably make my own for the holidays, but it's good to know a premade one is possible. Woohoo.

Too tired for a question of the day. I fail.

And for some reason I'm feeling a little throat burny/acidic right now, hmmm....

November 1

November 1

Back on track today? Well, not so much, but I did OK calorie-wise, so ya know...could always be worse.

-water
-2 eggs over medium (150 cals)
-1.5 sausages (I know I said I hate sausage, but the kind at iHop are ok, sorta. Still not my fave, but it came w/ the meal..) (can't find info....200 cals?)
-the crispy tops of the hashbrowns (150 cals)
-1 cheesecake pancake with just a tiny tiny drizzle of butter pecan syrup (275 cals)

I didn't even have a drop of coffee and my stomach still hurt badly after. Coulda been the eggs or sausage. I think I'm going to have to stop eating eggs so frequently. UGH it sucks!

-joint vitamin/mineral powder mixed with 6 oz light apple juice (supposed to be 8 oz, but it was making me sick so I poured the rest out) (45 cals)

stomach hurt AGAIN. I'm guessing from the cinnamon in the supplement. This is getting ridiculous.

-club soda

-small root beer (yep, still obsessed. SO. GOOD.) (160 cals)

-2 oz (dry) quinoa pasta with 2ish tablespoons pesto (365 cals)

-1/2 an espresso chocolate chip vegan cookie (250 cals)

The cookie was stupid. It's been in my room for awhile and as of tomorrow I'm trying to test out going gluten-free to see if it makes any difference in my stomach/body pains. Anyway, the cookie is filled with wheat, so I gave it a try before throwing it out and kept going back for more. Oops. I threw the rest (plust the other two) in the trash. Hasta la vista. I'm going to miss my vitamuffins the very most. It's going to be HARD to avoid those, ugh I love them soooo much. But if it helps me feel better that will be great. We'll see...

ONE LAST THING: I know I don't have a lot of readers, but just for fun, even if I'm the only one answering (but anyone who reads PLEASE feel free to comment!) I'm gonna try and remember to add a Question of the Day from now on. Today's question is: If you were at your goal/dream weight/body, would you dress the same/have the same style or not?

For me, I think it'd be half yes half no. I'd definitely wear more body concious dresses in satin and similar more unforgiving fabrics. I'd also wear more simple outfits from time to time, like jeans and a plain white shirt dressed up with accessories, but still just plain, but that actually looked good. But overall I think I'd buy approximately the same types of pieces. I'd just look better in them ;)

Going grocery shopping tomorrow, that should make staying on track consistently a lot easier...

End of October--BIG update

October 29
Fatty McFatterson of Fatsville :)

Yeahhhhhhhh........

-small latte light (80 cals)
-english muffin eggwhich (350 cals)
-3/4 of ham, turkey, & cheese sandwich (350 cals)
-bbq pop chips (120 cals)
-bbq chicken & ham (350 cals?)
-potato salad (150 cals)
-cool ranch doritos (150 cals)
-zevia root beer (0 cals)
-tortilla pizza with a tinnny bit of chicken (150 cals)
-pumpkin seeds (75 cals)
-puppy chow (sans powdered sugar) (300 cals?)
-iced tea (0 cals)
-2 fun sized laffy taffy's (65 cals)
-peach cobbler (270 cals)
-arby's gyro (560 cals) (way more cals than I expected, but it was super good)
-a few curly fries (50 cals?)

I was gone from about 9 am 'til about 8 or so pm, then came home and kept eating. I was really hungry all that time too. Well, mostly. NOT COOL.

For a few hours my Mom and I babysat Kendyll, my cousin's baby. Isn't she cute? The first pic is from the last time we babysat, the others are most recent.

& her doggie, Reesie:

October 30

:( :( :( What am I doing?!?!

-4 small squares of pepperoni pizza (680 cals) (I had NO idea each piece was 170 cals or I would have only had 1 or 2. Since they were squares and not triangles they were misleading. CRAZY. I would have figured they'd have added up to 2 normal size slices..)
-water

-cookies n creme snack size candy bar (50 cals)

After I left the office (actually and before lol) my Mom and I went to this cute lil boutique called Beyond The Door. I got this lil hand to put all my rings on. Kinda creepy, but a cool idea. It's really convenient. And oddly, the third hand for that purpose I've seen this week. I'd never seen any before in my life, but suddenly they're everywhere :-P

-8 chick-fil-a chicken nuggets w/ bbq sauce (310 cals)
-fruit cup (70 cals)
-1/2 of a one organic food bar in chocolate macaroon crunch (105 cals)

I meant to do good (grilled chicken breast or something like that), but I got really hungry all of a sudden and we realized we didn't have time to eat before we went to see Coco Before Chanel, but there was no way I could wait 3 hours to eat something. I ended up falling asleep during a good part of the first half of the movie too :(. It was really good tho!

After the movie....

-3/4 of a mamba taxi (small frozen margarita with a lil sangria on top. It's really good at one place, but this one wasn't great--not worth the cals) (300 cals?)
-salad w/ chicken and ranch (really good) (350 cals?)
-mini taquito with sour cream (150 cals?)
-2 black bean and cheese nachos w/ chicken and sour cream (250 cals?)

Normally I don't eat nachos, but I was considering ordering them myself, but probably wouldn't have. Ironically, my Mom did, so I had a couple since they were there and I did want them...

OK OK and I may have had 4 or 5 chips with salsa too...

-slice of chocolate cake (damn my Dad! :-P He bought it for work for a Halloween party he threw for his teenage social skills group, but one of their mom's ended up bringing cupcakes and brownies, so no one needed his cake and he's diabetic and can't have it, so he brought it home) (300 cals?)
-grapefruit sparkling water (0 cals)

October 31

Today I decided to get back on track, so I did. Easy as that. Love how that works sometimes. My family was going to take me out for my belated graduation dinner at III Forks, a fancy steak place we keep putting off, but I decided I'd rather wait to have such a heavy meal. I knew I'd enjoy it, it's one of the best restaurants in Dallas, but I wanted to feel like I earned it. Or, at least, I didn't want to down a cup of lobster bisque, a filet mignon, and gallons of their breathtaking creamed corn after 2 days of overindulging (on crap, I might add), ya know? The food will still be there when I'm ready.

-egg white scramble (3 egg whites, wilted spring mix, mushrooms, 1 tablespoon evoo, a tiny bit of onion, all topped with 1 tablespoon of amazing pesto) (275 cals)
-1 organic buckwheat wildberry waffle with 1 tablespoon pumpkin cream cheese and 1 tablespoon pumpkin butter (150 cals)
-pumpkin spice black tea with 2 oz pumpkin spice egg nog (100 cals)

AMAZING. And pretty good for me too.

I thought about making pumpkin oats with raisins for a lil Halloween holiday spirit, but egg whites, mushrooms, and pesto sounded better. Sorry holiday spirit, lol.

First, I kept trying to convince my Mom to go out with me for brunch, but she wasn't interested in leaving the house. I think what I made was just as good, if not better, and surely much lower cal. Score for me.

-the other half of the chocolate macaroon crunch food bar (105 cals)

After that I ran on the treadmill (OK, speed walked and jogged--I'm slow even when I am in shape and since I'm not....) for 40 minutes. I told myself I only had to go for 20, but was having fun blasting a lil Britney. Woohoo. The first 20 min or so I had hiccups, so that didn't help me keep breathing well, but I managed.

-honeycrisp apple (100ish cals) -about 3/4 tablespoon cinnamon raisin peanut butter (70ish cals)

I was going to go out for dinner with my Dad at a German restaurant (my idea), but right as we were going to leave I realized the apple and pb snack had filled me up. Grr I was so disappointed! But I didn't want to make myself sick, especially since (TMI ahead) last time we went there I threw up for days on end. To be fair, I did order the sausage sampler plate and not only do I not like sausage in the first place (I just wanted to try it and see if there were any I liked...), I also had a stomach thing anyway (gastroenteritis), but still. My Dad can't believe, to this day, that I'd ever go back after puking that much :-P. It was probably like 10 years ago too haha.

I didn't eat anymore, didn't need to, and even had a bit of a mild acid reflux-y stomachache all nite. Boo. Anyway, hope everyone had a great holiday! What did you dress up as? What did you do? Me, nothing, but some of my Atlanta friends are throwing a Friday the 13th costume party this month, so I'll have those pics for you then :). Can't wait!

Here's my dog in her festive outfit lol

She's usually covered in curly hair, but just got groomed and is looking a lil silly, but still adorable :-P
