Happy Mem Day

Happy Memorial Day!

I'll catch back up on my week a little later, but for now...

-mini aprium
-about 1/3 to 1/2 of a think thin crunch bar

I had to put the apriums in the fridge b/c of nasty Summer fruit flies and they're kind of mushy now. Oh dear. I have something like 17 more to get through and I could barely finish this one. I hope it was just a fluke...

Went to the gym and intended to work out for 45 min on the cross ramp + stretch, but when I got there the Biggest Loser was on EXACTLY where they cut it off on actual finale nite due to the storms. Happenstance! I stayed on the machine for the entire 1 hr 10 min it was on. Instead of doing my usual gym stretching machine I did an accelerated version.

I was supah hungry by the time we had "breakfast" (at 2 pm...) at Cafe Brazil. Can't believe I had leftovers.

-1 vegetarian breakfast taco (zucchini, tomato, mushrooms, prob other veggies, egg whites, cheddar, feta, salsa, a little hot sauce on whole wheat tortilla)
-rosemary potatoes with ketchup
-another million cups of black coffee with vanilla stevia (half a cup of cinnamon gingerbread, french toast, chocolate cherry, and half a to-go cup of decaf snickerdoodle with french toast)

I wanted like 3 more plates of those potatoes. It isn't often I like white potatoes over sweet, or even like breakfast potatoes at all (except from Little Gus'!), but these are up there!

Then I did the unthinkable. Just kidding, but I went to the office on Memorial Day. Only for about 2 and a half hours, at least. I felt pretty horrible though :(. Dizzy and stomach-achey. Wah. But I got a lot done.

-cranberry Kombucha

Thought it may soothe my stomach a lil.

It didn't really work. I felt so sick for a couple hours, but luckily it subsided just in time for...

Bbq time!

I had a sample of everything...

-bbq organic chicken
-grilled mushrooms
-vegan cole slaw
-smashed potato salad (had hard boiled eggs in it, but no dairy)
-side salad (organic mixed greens, organic baby carrots, avocado, slivered ranch almonds, light ranch)
-roasted zucchini with cheese
-berry flavored sparkling water mixed with pomegranate juice x 2

& for dessert?

-bananas rubbed with stevia & cinnamon & grilled served on top of sugar free coconut milk ice cream

Great meal & we actually ate together as a family at the dining room table. RARITY!

I'm glad we have a short work week ahead, but it really didn't feel like a long weekend. It still feels like Sunday and I'm still super tired. Here's hoping the next weekend comes asap :).

xo,
Amanda

P.S. Whatcha think of the new header? My brother is a graphic artist and may make me one in the semi-near future, but I think I'm liking this thing I threw together for now! Might need to throw in a pop of color, but I'm kind of a black & white loving girl anyway.

Sam Weekend

Sam came again for another weekend adventure.

But first I had to work. With flair.

My co-worker friend and I are into the feather thang now. She made hers, I bought mine off eBay. Lazy, yes. But it's cute. I would have bought more except the seller sent me the wrong color and when I asked her (him? I forget) about it, she/he basically said they sell different shades of blue and they're sorry I'm not satisfied. Uh. Ok. But I didn't order blue. I ordered turquoise. I ordered their order #3. They sent me #7. Not exactly me being colorblind. But whatever.

I also came prepared for the weather...

Yay Hunter boots to the rescue. They fit so much better this time with my regular knee high socks instead of the fleece Hunter socks.

Sam made record driving time. He got here a little before 7. That's some skillful driving.

I suggested Pei Wei for dinner, knowing it's Sam's fave and I had been in the mood all week. Not very creative, but ya know. Naturally, he agreed. He had wanted to suggested it himself, but thought we would kill him since he always wants to eat there, lol. No sir! Pei Wei FTW.

Well. Kinda.

The crab wontons & brown rice were delightful, but this was my first time trying the Thai Dynamite sauce and I was NOT a fan. I got it with tofu & steamed shrimp, my 2 fave proteins there, but the sauce just ruined it. Boo. Now I know.

At Kohl's that nite I bought the babycakes mini cupcake maker. I made a batch of strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese frosting & banana chocolate chip cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. The banana were better than the strawberry, but both were too heavy and dense. I may have to take that machine back. What a let down! I bought some boxed cake mix to try out in it just to make sure it wasn't me. We'll see.

The next day I had an 11 chiro appt, so kind of awkward timing for breakfast.

We ended up eating after my appointment, but had to keep it light because our movie-lunch at the Studio Movie Grill was just around the corner a couple hours later.

We had Einstein's

I strayed from my usual lox-ness and went for my other fave option, the honey wheat bagel thin sandwich with egg whites, mushrooms, asparagus, swiss, & some sort of tomato spread. I will never understand how this is more filling for me than a full sized bagel. But alas...

For lunch I had a salad with grilled chicken, artichoke hearts, onions, feta, tomato, and balsamic. It was OK. Too chickeny. I should have gone for my original choice, the black bean burger and fruit. But I made a last minute change. Oh well. I also shared some of Sam's cheese fries & 2 of his cookies (1 white choc macadamia during the movie & a choc chip on our way out).

Not really sure why I ate the cookies since we went to Sprinkles right after. But oh well. They were tasty.

Oh. And the movie? We saw Bridesmaids. Hilarious. It's as good as everyone says.

Now back to the goods. Cupcake wise I had their special, the salted caramel. I'm not a salt fan, but this was DAMN good. And it almost wasn't meant to be, but they brought out a fresh batch right as we approached the counter after waiting in a line wrapped around the store. It was cupcake fate. Put the babycake maker to shame.

We stopped by Walmart to find a Red Box, so we could rent Due Date. Sam has been raving about it every trip, so we finally decided to watch it together. It was pretty funny! I liked Hangover better (Sam prefers DD), but I'm glad I finally saw it and did laugh quite a bit.

AND, I must brag about Sam's toy crane skills at Walmart. He ALWAYS wins at the crane game. It's crazy. This time, of the 2 times he played (well, 3, but the first 2 I'm talking about....) he won both times. In a row. Mad skills.

Buster REALLY appreciated his wins...

& they call it puppy loooove. (The Scooby was one of the wins. another was a frog).

We were going to go to Dave & Busters for dinner & games before going out for the nite, but we all needed a nap instead. Lame, yes. But necessary. My co-worker friend was singing with her new band that evening at a local bar, so we made our way there to check 'em out. We figured we'd grab dinner there, have a couple of drinks, and be out in 2 hours or so (they were scheduled to play from 10 pm-2 am, but we didn't plan on staying). Well, we got there just after 10, but the Mav's game was on, so they postponed the band until the end of the game....close to 11. While waiting we ordered....

Chivas on the rocks.

I wasn't very hungry oddly, so my Dad & I shared an entree...

Chicken fajitas. I had about 2. I really liked them, my Dad thought they were mediocre at best. Weirdo.

We ended up staying watching the band until nearly 2 am when they ended. *yawn* During that time I had one more scotch + one miller lite.

They played mostly hard rock & heavy metal, a FAR cry from what my friend usually sings (pop/light rock/country). I actually liked it, but I like most types of music. She was miserable though, which sucked for her. And it was way too loud. But I enjoyed myself. Even if the band did break up the next day. (It was their first gig playing together, too). Oh well, it was prob for the best, especially for her sake. And she still has her own solo gigs, so it's all good. I really want Sam to hear her sing the stuff she usually does, he'd really be into that, I think. Though she did throw some Ke$ha, Lady Gaga, & Kelly Clarkson our way. & They also played all of my fave Rockband songs. Woo. MY friends Dad made me dance with him once, kind of funny. But when he asked again I said I was done for the nite. Hey, It was big of me to do it once. Trust me. I kind of hate dancing. I have no rhythm.

I have trouble going to bed after a nite out (unless I'm drunk, then I pass out in seconds, but I rarely drink that much), so I ended up watching TV for hours. I was probably up 'til past 4. To the old Amanda that would be a normal nite, but for working Amanda that's pretty late. Rockstar.

Woke up Sunday morning with plans to go visit my cousin at Cheesecake Factory.

Had to start with a little of the brown bread. I used to be able to eat loaf after loaf of this stuff, but this time I stopped after this amount. Self control whaaaat.

To drink I had an unpictured tropical iced tea. The best.

Sam ordered us fried mac & cheese to share. I had one and a half. It probably clogged my arteries, but it was even better than I remembered. Smaller (but that was probably a good thing), but better.

My entree sucked. Big mistake.

Crab hash. And yes, those disgusting, shriveled white things in the center are in fact poached eggs. WTF? Thank god I asked for the hollandaise on the side because you should have seen the texture. Awful. The whole thing was a greasy mess. No bueno. With a menu of practically every food on the planet I should have loved my choice. Gotta be more careful next time. Also, why would they serve hash browns with a hash full of potatoes? *scratches head* Whatev.

Sam was planning to stay late into the afternoon, but during brunch we heard BAD storms were coming, and even tornadoes, so he left straight from CCF. :(

As always when he comes, it was a very fun, eventful weekend! Even though we do pretty much the same thing every time, give or take a few things, it's always a good time.

In-N-Out

About a week and a half ago In N Out amazingness opened up in Texas. I'd been dying to go ever since it was on the radar, but decided waiting 3 hours for a fast food burger was even crazy for me. I went last Monday and finally braved the lines. It wasn't too bad, about 35 minutes? Still ridic for any ole day, but for a first time thing, OK.

Found it & was shocked I didn't see a huge line. Then realized we were on the wrong side & had to turn around and it took like 10+ minutes to get in the right place. D'oh.

LOL isn't that kind of sad? And to think I was a part of the madness. They had police and security and everything.

Getting closer...

Love the palm trees. Nice touch, In N Out.

Fresh....from the truck. LOL.

So busy they had people taking orders from the parking lot

Out turn!!!! I had our orders pre-typed on my iPhone, but my Dad insisted on looking at a menu anyway just to hold up the line. :-P

SUCCESS!!!

& Total Domination ensued......very shortly after.

My order didn't even make it all the way home. They don't call it animal style for nothing. I teared into that shizz like a hungry lion.

I'm not a burger girl, but this hit the spot reaaaal good. In the past on vacas I remember obsessing over the idea of in-n-out, but when I actually ate it I thought it was just OK, but this time I went all animal style and lemme tell ya...not disappointed.

This could get dangerous.

A Taste of Last Week

Green Monstah. Basically just a strawberry banana smoothie with vanilla protein powder & spinach, obvs. Delish, only now I can't find my beloved glass straw, which sucks!!

Take two...only not.

Dunkin D's strawberry shortcake coffee with vanilla coconut milk + a chocolate (protein powder) & banana shake with spinach. Also made with vanilla coconut milk Kinda shocked it came out green, I thought it would still be brown!

Brown rice toast topped with pizza sauce, daiya mozzarella "cheese," goat cheese crumbles (I missed these!!!), chopped sweet peppers, spinach, garlic gold nuggets & organic red pepper flakes

Served with a flavor-complimentary salad

The nuts on top = hail merry's chile flavored pecans (forget the official much fancier name). Yum.

Quorn gruyere stuffed "chicken" (aka amazing deliciousness I want to eat every nite again and again). Served with veggies roasted in a lil coconut oil + a side of roasted red pepper hummus. One of my new favorite dinners.

Big family dinner out (extended fam too) a la Texas Roadhouse

Those rolls, oh god those rolls! I try to stay away, but they're sooo good and the butter is even better. I say it over and over, but I don't usually care for bread or butter, but these are heavenly. I decided beforehand I could have ONE. I stopped at 1.5. Tell me that's not HUGE willpower. :-P

Entree=salmon (no butter...not sure why it still looks shiny), green beans (didn't eat the nasty bacon or w/e it was), + a dry sweet potato. And unpictured iced tea. So so good. I'd been craving salmon for days now.

Followed by:

toffee ice cream. OH yeah. What I had wanted was fro-yo with fruit, but I wasn't about to turn this gloriousness down! You understand.

Mini protein pancakes topped with coconut flavored almond milk yogurt (it's a pretty good topping, but not yogurty enough to eat like regular yogurt...kinda gelly texture), organic raspberries, and organic maple syrup.

Threw most of my lunch away...

Salad topped with cottage cheese, 2 kinds of salsa, and leftover salmon. My salads have been kind of misses lately, not sure why. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood.

Another case in point:

You say you don't see a salad there? Exactly. Because most of that one was trashed too. But this brown rice toast topped with roasted red pepper hummus was amazing as always. And just filling enough to make me not eat my arm off when the salad went into the garbage can.

I had to return some clothes at the mall (too bad I didn't have time to shop, I miss shopping!!! neeeed spring clothes!), so while I did that my Mom picked us up California Pizza Kitchen to-go.

Small roasted veg salad + pea & barley soup. I love that salad, even if it didn't have the goat cheese for some reason. I read on some website it's not very healthy, but I still pretend it is. It's just vegetables and balsamic! And tastes like happy.

We both sortof wanted a cocktail (margarita for her, wine spritzer for moi), but she said the bartender never came back out to her after she placed the order, despite her waiting for it at the bar, so we just left when our food came shortly after I met her there. No biggie.

Instead at home I enjoyed my current mocktail love, pom juice mixed with sparkling water.

With a side of cute begger girl.

Tried to make a protein cake (topped with pb & choc chips)

But it turned more souffle-y

Not sure if it was in a good way. I blame the fact that I couldn't find the baking powder. Oh well.

My week of food overall? I think this photo about says it all!

*heart*

The only real disappointment?

Meh. I thought I'd love this, but not so much. Bummer. Can't win 'em all.

Washed down with a tasty orange.

I did also leave out one epic meal that is the antithesis of health food, but deserves its own well-documented post. Up next.
